Whole on My Own: Real connection comes from abundance, not emptiness.

I’m not the type to enjoy small talk. Weather, sports, or the usual “How are you?” don’t do it for me. What I want is to talk about things that matter, the strange, the wonderful, the honest bits of life that most people keep hidden. I want to know what lights you up, what worries you, and what you’re feeling. I’d rather skip the surface and get to what’s real.

Someone once told me, “Imagine how boring life would be if there were no magic.” That line stuck with me. I think the real magic is found in honest conversations, in being open, and in connecting with someone who’s not afraid to go a little deeper. That’s the kind of connection I look for, not just in friendships, but in love too.

And when it comes to love, I’ve noticed there’s a big difference between needing someone and wanting someone. Need comes from feeling like something’s missing inside, like you’re hoping another person can make you whole. That kind of love always feels a bit shaky, because it depends on what the other person gives you, not who they are.

Want is different. Want comes from a place of feeling good about yourself, of being okay on your own. When you want someone, it’s because you truly enjoy who they are and want to share your life with them, not because you’re hoping they’ll fill a space. That kind of love feels lighter, more honest, and a lot more real.

It’s easy to get caught up in the idea that love should feel desperate or like you can’t live without the other person. But the best kind of love I know is when you’re happy with yourself, and you simply want someone in your life because you appreciate them for who they are, no pressure, no fear, just a true connection.

This ties right into everything I’ve been sharing lately, about being honest with ourselves, letting go of what doesn’t help us, and focusing on what fills us up inside. The best relationships, like the best moments in life, aren’t about what we can get, but about what we can share.

Maybe the real magic in life is finding someone who wants to explore it with you, not to fix what’s missing, but to add to what’s already there. Someone curious and open, who loves wonder and isn’t afraid to talk about the real stuff, even when it’s a little messy or strange.

I’m learning that what matters most in love, just like in life, isn’t about holding on out of fear or feeling empty without someone. It’s about sharing what’s already good inside you. To want someone, not because you need them, but because you see and appreciate them for who they are.

Because honestly, life would be boring without a bit of real magic.
